Master teacher Laura Tyree is returning to the west coast after her huge success at last month's Ojai Yoga Crib. The Ojai Yoga Crib traditionally invites only California instructors to teach at it's annual weekend workshop in October. Created by Kira Ryder, owner of Lulu Bandha's, the Crib has been headlined by Erich Schiffmann and other notable west coast teachers for the past five years. In 2008 Tyree was one of the first east coast teachers invited to teach and participate in the 3 day event held in and around Ojai. The Crib has become an invertible who's who in the past few years, gaining Kira Ryder a spot among Yoga Journal's Best Teachers Under 40.
Tyree, whose latest teachings include a fluid asana combined with her rich voice in mantra, was such a huge success at the Crib that she as been invited back for next year. It also inspired her to head back to the west coast to connect with more students and teachers in Santa Barbara.
Tyree will be holding a weekend workshop retreat in Santa Barbara November 19-23, 2008. Participants can choose to attend 2 or 4 days of this special workshop. The workshop, titled M3: Mudra, Mantra and Movement will explore her current play of asana and mantra. Also included are discussions, daily lunches and kirtan. The workshop is being held at Casa das Palmas, a beautiful private estate near Hendries Beach that features gardens, a heated pool, and lots of restful outdoor areas. Participants are free to enjoy the home and grounds during free times. Those traveling from out of town are also welcome to stay at the home.
While new to teaching on the west coast, Tyree is not a stranger to the great instructors available to yoga students. She has been a student of Erich Schiffmann, Rodney Yee and JJ Gormely for years. Her style, while influenced by all of her teachers from the past twenty years, is very much still uniquely her own.
As Rodney Yee once stated, "Laura is not afraid to be fully alive and human. This along with her keen eye, many years of deep yoga practice and a heart like a full moon makes her a very special yoga teacher. Take her class and find new maps to your inner soul.”
Laura Tyree is the owner and operator of Dragonfly Yoga Studies in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and conducts teacher training programs in three states. Her first CD, Amma Bakti, was released in 2007.
