Info About Yoga For Better Health

Recurring Injuries

Yoga is particularly good at helping to reduce recurring injuries. Often when people get injured the area that is damaged remains susceptible to more injuries as the tissue and muscle has been weakened by the injury.

By doing yoga exercises that specifically target the area of the injury, that part of the body and all the supporting muscles can be strengthened to help reduce the chance of the injury occurring again.

Often there are also factors that contributed to the injury in the first place, where there was a weakness that would get injured easily.
This can be brought about by something as simple as a slight imbalance from one side of the body to the other where without noticing the person is constantly compensating for that imbalance. Rather than bring back the balance and thereby sort out this problem the compensation for the problem often reduces it’s resilience to injury further.

There is another problem that faces people who have had injuries and that is referred to as muscle memory. Muscle memory can cause the body to regularly fall to injury in the same area of the body and through the same actions that caused the injury in the first place.
Yoga is a powerful way to break this muscle memory just as it does with the mind in breaking bad habits.

A good yoga instructor will also be able to see where there are areas of misalignment that could be the cause of many of the problems. If the spine and the rest of the body are in alignment then there is less likelihood of recurring injuries.

Similar to the teachings of people who use the Alexander Technique to bring about alignment in the body thereby reducing injuries, yoga does this by the poses and exercises that help to strengthen any weaknesses as they become apparent.

Yogi Tea, Simple, Powerful, Healing

Yogi Tea is a wonderful potion which was provided by Yogi Bhajan.

Sometimes as one travels the path, any path, we forget the simple things which bring health and healing to our lives.  Yogi tea is one of them.  In my teacher training we even had a class on how to make Yogi Tea ourselves.  Which was greatly appreciated.  I now make yogi tea on a bi-weekly basis in batches so that I can drink it in the morning as opposed to the coffee I used to always drink.  I’ve found that making it myself adds some extra good healing energy to it.  However, the Yogi Tea which is available in the store is extremely tasty and has several specific healing capabilities to help people.

(Gotta give a shout out to the folks at Busy People Inc. Organic Food, for providing the space for our class in Teacher Training.)

I’m actually sipping some Yogi Tea as I type this, he he he.

Okay so back to it, Yogi Bhajan and his students have developed a series of teas for very specific ailments.  For example, there is Yogi Tea for sore throats, Yogi Tea for pregnancy, Yogi Tea for energy, Yogi Tea to enhance breating the list goes on.  These are herbal remedies that have been mixed together using scientific understanding of the properties within them to promote healing.  It’s simply great stuff.  Oh and the Yogi Tea in the stores comes with great little inspirational messages on every tea bag, which are really fun.

As a Kundalini Yoga Teacher in the Aquarian Age one of my roles is to help spread the teachings.  And Yogi Tea is such a simple way to do so.  Here’s what you do, pick up some Yogi Tea, take it to work with you drink some, then share with your coworkers.  Before you know it, if they are tea drinkers, you coworkers will say mmmm that’s good.  I happen to share some tea with a virtual priest, who I work with.  She tried some tea and next thing ya know she goes to the store and buys some more.  Now we have Yogi Tea time in the office ;-)  That was a very simple means of sharing the healing.  The power lies in the tea itself.

Like I said to start, Yogi Tea, Simple, Powerful Healing.

Core Power Yoga

Is not surprising that core power yoga has become very popular with many people as it focuses on the core region of the body, the abdominal muscles in particular that not only assist in posture but also look great when you’re walking down the beach.

It is actually a fairly intense form of yoga for many people as it is performed more vigorously than other forms of yoga and in a heated environment.

Many people can find this form of yoga stressful in itself and realistically you should have a reasonable level of fitness before you get involved in core power yoga.

People who perform core power yoga on a regular basis find the combination of strength and flexibility that it offers helps to raise their fitness level beyond that which they could achieve using other forms of exercise and all the while helping to reduce the levels of stress.

It also helps many people to become more focused in everything they do in their life as this is one of the aspects of core power yoga that the training brings with it.

There is a version of yoga called Ashtanga that gives the basis for core power yoga.

By strengthening the core area of the body in the lower back and the abdominal muscles it is very beneficial for many forms of sports as this is the central strength of the body that is required for almost every type of activity.

Building strength in this area gives a lot of support to the back and reduces a lot of back injuries that are common to many people.

By performing the yoga in a heated environment it is thought that this helps to eliminate toxins from the body and it certainly is a fast way to build up a sweat.

While the poses are generally only held for a very short time a combination of one after the other helps to increase physical endurance.

Your Basic Yoga Equipment

One of the aspects about yoga that appeals to many people is the fact that you don’t need a lot of equipment to perform the exercises.
In fact you don’t need any equipment to perform most of the basic exercises which makes it very easy for yoga to be practiced almost anywhere.

It also makes it easy for people of all ages to participate in yoga exercises and get the benefits that it will present to them.

Not only is it one of the most beneficial forms of exercise that you could undertake but it is also one of the few that requires virtually no investment of money other than some loose clothing to ensure that you can perform the poses comfortably.

Traditionally yoga is done in bare feet so you don’t even need to buy any special footwear to do yoga.

Unlike many sports you don’t even need to rely on additional supplements, vitamins and minerals to make up for any deficiencies that can be caused through specific forms of exercise. Yoga in itself will improve your health and well-being and if anything reduce your dependence on the need to take additional supplements to compensate other factors that are lacking in your health and fitness.

As you become more advanced with your yoga exercises you might feel the need to add some additional equipment to assist in taking yourself to higher levels.

This can be as many as simple as a mat that will reduce the chance of slipping when doing your standing poses.
You might also like to get straps that can assist with your stretching although even these don’t need to be anything more than a piece of rope or a belt that you’ve probably got lying around the house.

Yoga is practiced extensively in countries where the people cannot afford to spend money on exercise equipment.

Fortunately basic equipment such as Yoga mats that will provide some form of cushioning and slip resistance on the floor, and bolsters that will help to get your body in the correct position, providing alignment for your spine and legs can be purchased for very little expense.
Even the genuine Yoga straps that will help you to achieve more flexibility by helping you to perform poses that you couldn’t otherwise do without the assistance of the strap, cost very little to purchase.

And the only other item that you could possibly need would be a blanket that most everybody has anyway.

Tantra Yoga

Tantra Yoga is one of the many different forms of yoga that are practiced these days.

This form of yoga is concentrated more on the healing of the spiritual side and bringing into balance the integration of the mind, the body and the soul.

Traditionally in India it is thought that your sexuality is an important part of being able to achieve a level of enlightenment that is not possible without this aspect of your development.

This can be quite different from the Western civilizations thoughts on these areas where sexuality is not regarded as a part of spirituality on the same level.

Tantra yoga seeks to release the energy that this philosophy of celebration of sexuality relates to. Those people who do get involved and practice Tantra yoga find it to be a wonderful experience that is also very therapeutic, relaxing and at the same time stimulating.

Along with these benefits it has been shown that Tantra Yoga can also assist in the health and well-being in other areas. The exercises help to improve circulation that can reduce the incidence of prostate cancer by helping the prostate to function better and to remain in a healthier state.

It can also help to enhance your sex life with better sexual performance from the improved physical condition, energy and control.

For woman this can also increase the levels of sexual enlightenment by being able to control and concentrate the energy levels towards a more fulfilling experience.

The retraining of the mind and the body through Tantra yoga also helps to reduce anxiety which once again assists in helping to achieve a better sexual experience.

This can help to strengthen relationships and not only make for a healthier and happier love life but affect all aspects of a couple’s life.

When a couple practice Tantra yoga, applying the techniques with one another and focusing on satisfying the other partner, both parties benefit considerably more than could be expected otherwise.

Ashtanga Yoga – Is it right for you?

Ashtanga Yoga is the type of yoga which was developed and founded by K. Pattabhi Jois. This type of yoga is known as the Eight Limb Yoga which has revolved in Pattanjali’s enormous idea. It presented that the path of purification is made up of the eight spiritual practices.

The first four limbs that represent Ashtanga Yoga are – yama, niyama, Asana and the Pranayama. These are considered cleansing practices which are externally correctable. The other set of limbs which are the – pratyahara, dhyana, dharana are the internal practies.

These limbs can only be corrected by the proper application of the Ashtanga Yoga method. This type of yoga method is quite dangerous to the mind.

K. Pattabhi Jois said that practicing these Eight Limbs and also its sub-limbs of the external practices which include the niyama and yama is not possible. In doing so, the body should be strong so that it can perform the practices well enough. If the body is weak, and the sense organs are not functioning well, practicing will never be useful at all.

This is a philosophy that K. Pattabhi Jois has applied, this is important to understand so that in doing the practice, you are sure that the body will improve and the keep it stronger and healthier.

Vinsaya and Tristhana is practiced in Ashtanga Yoga.

The Vinsaya is a style that makes Ashtanga and its principles distinct from the others. Vinsaya means the movement and breathing which is used for the internal cleansing process. Each movement done is accompanied by only one breath. Sweat is the most important product of Vinsaya. When you produce sweat, it only means that you are successfully applying the practice. When you perform the Asanas, the body creates heat which causes your blood to boil and excrete the toxins outside of your body. The toxins are found in your sweat. So the more sweat you create, the more toxins are released.

The poses are used to fully develop the strength and health of the body. The series of practices make this possible. There are three postures used in Ashtaga Yoga.

The three are classified on different levels.

The first is the Primary Series which aims on aligning the body and also detoxifying it.

The second is the Intermediate Series opening and cleaning the energy channels which comes to the process of purifying the Nervous System.

The last series would be the Advanced Series from A to D. in this series, the grace and strength is measured.

The Tristhana is another yoga principle which represents the union of the three places of action and attention. First is the posture, second is the breathing technique ad last is the Dristhi of the Looking Place. All these three should work altogether to perform a function.

Breathing techniques are simultaneous and synchronized. It is important to make a single breath for one movement. Ujjayi Breathing is the Yoga Breathing Technique used in the application of Ashtanga Yoga. Applying this technique must be prolonged after every practice. What you need to master is holding your pose longer at the same time hold your breath. This is an amazing breathing exercise that will increase your internal fire and will strengthen the Nervous System.

Both Ashtanga and Tristhana deal with the series of Dristhi. The Dristhi is described as the point on which you gain your focus or attention while doing the Asana. This enables your mind to be purified and stabilized clearly.

Setting the mind clear and cleansing it can only be done in the Eight-Limb Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga.
